Preparation :-
- Soak 1/2 a small tea glass of toordal in sufficient water for 15 mins and cook it . Mash dal nicely.
- Soak bleberry size tamarind in water . After 15 mins extract its juice .
- Chop 2 ripe tomatoes , crush 4 garlic pods , slit lengthwise 2 or 3 greenchillies .
- Heat a pan / bowl add 2 tspns oil , add 1/4 tspn urad dal , 1/4 tspn cumin seeds , 1/4 tspn mustard seeds , add chopped green chillies and crushed garlic pods . After a min add 1 strig of curry leaves .
- Next add chopped tomatoes and mix nicely .
- While tomatoes r boiling add 1 & 1/4 tspn salt (tata salt) , marble size jaggery , tamarind juice and pinch of turmeric . Mix all nicely . Let tomatoes turn mushy .
- Now add 1 glass of water ( 250ml) and add mashed dal .
- Let this boil nicely for 5 mins .
- Next add 3/4 tspn MTR rasam powder and 3 strigs of chopped coriander leaves . Let this boil for 5 more mins .
- Switch off the stove and serve hot with rice .

ReplyDeletetried your tomato pappu charu today...but i dint use mtr rasam powder so the taste may be different than yours..but actually i even liked it before adding the rasam powder so it must taste better with mtr..nice receipe..keep it up

hi, instead of using MTR Rasam powder you can prepare Rasam powder homemade..take Dhaniya-2cups,Thoor Dhal-1cup,peppercorn-1/4thcup,jeera-1/4thcup,red chillies-15,curry leaves-10nos,turmeric powder-1tablespoon.

Hi Krithiga , i too make home made rasam powder but i use it for regular rasam . When i make pappu charu i like to add MTR . But these days i stopped adding rasam powders in pappu charu , am just making it simple just by replacing it with little amount of chilly powder.
